Hmmmm??? What will that do with the geometry of the truck's front end? Won't that be like pushing a shopping cart backward? That said, I see vehicles towed backwards a lot while traveling.

Can you tow a rear wheel drive car backward on a tow dolly?

Yes

Should you tow a rear wheel drive car backward on a tow dolly?

No

You can, and people do tow backward. You have to line the car perfectly straight and them somehow lock or strap the steering wheel so that it can't move. Tow truck drivers do it all the time, for short distances and at low speeds.

It plays havoc on the steering and control over long distances at highway speeds and is not worth the risk. The other problem is most modern vehicles have a lower front than rear and by elevating the rear on a dolly, you lower the front even more and clearance may be an issue.

Summation: Possible but not recommended unless you have no other option.

I know better towing backwards not the smartest thought. Pulling alumi.flatbed trailer, seems to be the safest thing to do. Maybe in the future pick-up a ford ,honda whatever. Makes life easier that way. Thanks for the input , and info.
