Edge baseplate height

I'm considering a 2011-2014 vs 2015-2016 Ford Edge as a toad. The pictures on etrailer for a Roadmaster vs Blueox baseplate indicate the Roadmaster has a higher mounted baseplate for the earlier years Edge than the Blueox's. There doesn't seem to be much height difference between the two baseplates for the newer Edge.

Since I have a gasser with a tall receiver mount, I would prefer a higher mounted baseplate. This would minimize the size of the drop hitch I would need. Does anyone have baseplate height measurements for either series Edge for the various baseplate manufacturers? Also, are there any preferences for baseplate. Right now I'm inclined to use a ReadyBrute Elite tow bar.

Thanks, Fran

Fran need more info when asking for help, Roadmaster brackets on 15 and 16 Edge the adap cruse makes a lot of difference in the tab height , 19.5 for the Eco bost EZ4 with to 15 inches without for the EZ4, EZ5 tab is 17 inches.
On the 11 to 14 same story adap cruse EZ is 25 inches and the non adap cruse is 19.5 for the XL tabs

We pull a 2008 Edge Limited with a 1999 Winnebago gasser. We use a 10,000 lb Black Hawk tow bar and the standard base-plate for this combo. No problem with height.

We have a 2016 Edge 2.7L Sport w/o adaptive cruise control
here is what we have:

RoadMaster tow plate: RM-524444-5 (EZ5) plate it is 16.5 in to center of pins

RoadMaster bar: RM 520 Falcon 2 bar

RVI2 brake system.

Negative battery disconnect switch mounted on firewall in front of battery(red key like switch) that is removable.

My motorhome receiver is 18" to center of receiver.

Tow's good and so far no problem.

Thanks for the replies so far. My MH is setup for winter camping in FL right now and I can't get an accurate receiver height measurement. However, I think it's around 30 inches. I currently have to use a 10 inch drop receiver for my tow dolly. It constantly drags on the slightest incline change. Joet19711, I would love to have an Edge Sport with the 2.7L. I'm planning on replacing my Focus ST, which must be dolly towed. I've ripped the front bumper facia off of it twice because of dolly issues. The Edge Sport would be as close as I could get to the performance of Focus ST and allow more passenger and cargo capacity. The only things holding me back are the Edge toad weight, the baseplate height and Sport's high cost!

I thought the 2013 Focas ST could be towed 4 down, just can't tow over 70 mph. I Checked Rimco tow list and it showes it is towable 4 down.

All recent Focii and Fiestas, both with auto and manual transmissions, can be towed 4 down, except the ST versions. I believe that "short coming" is due to the unique 6 speed transmission used in both STs. The ST supplement owner's manual addresses the towing requirements, not the main manual.

The Edge 2.7L Sport has a curb weight of 3912 (Owners Manual)
with extra's moon roof etc about 4100.
When I tow it, I don't even know its back there.

Besides the price, your biggest obstacle if your receiver is 30," is the drop down to 16.5". Roadmasters safety height is 3" plus or minus.

All of the stuff that we had installed was installed by a local Roadmaster dealer that did a great job with no problems. One day in and out.

Good Luckk

I have a 2011 Ford Edge Spot 3.7 and my daughter has a 2016 Ford Edge Titanium 3.5. Here in Oregon if the truck scales are closed you can get a weight on your MH or your tow. I ran both over the scales both setup to tow Wt. 5050lbs both weighed the same. So if I go heavy and take off 400lbs me and the DW, both cars come in at 4650lbs, these are numbers from DOT truck scales hwy 30 out of Portland.

My 2013 Edge with Blue Ox baseplate has a height for the tow bar of 28". I actually have to have a 6" RISE to get the tow bar level. I use a ReadyBrute Elite tow bar and love it.

Stoker:

After reading your post, we went to a certified truck scales today and had our 2016 Ford Edge 2.7L Sport weighted.
So with 1/2 tank of fuel and DW who weights about 115 lbs, and 1/2 tank of fuel. It came in at 4,089 lbs.
Can not explain the difference???

Joe

Got me. The next time I will get the front then the rear wt should come out the same. Most of the time the scales are open when I go by. I have ran my MH over them to get a wt when closed. It is strange that both cars wt the same.

Maybe the engine makes the difference in the weight.
It cost me $11 today at that truck stop.
In any event, be hitting the road to FL after the holidays for a couple of months, having MH serviced at Freightliner next week to prepare for the trip.

It could be the motor 3.7
Here in Oregon all the truck scales can be used 24-7. If the DOT is checking and weighing truck, keep driving.
