Question Electric brake controller

First timer!!! Old but new!!! Be gentle with my ignorance!!!
I am in the process of purchasing an '06 Itaska 31'. I plan to use a dolly, with electric brakes, for my toad ('10 Mazda CX-7). Will I need to install an electric brake controller for this set-up?

Howdy and welcome to the forum! I'm not familiar with dolly towing, but make sure you have verified your motorhome and hitch weight capacities. Do you know the weight of the Mazda?

If you need to buy a electric brake controller take a look at the Prodigy brand. I just put one on my motor home and installation was pretty easy.

Yes, you'll need a brake contrller. We use a Tekonsha Prodigy for our dolly and trailer. The Prodigy has now been replaced by the Prodigy P2. Both use a deceleration detection sensor and provide proportional braking.

Brake Controllers - Tekonsha

There are several other brands on the market. I would however avoid those that use a timed delay rather than a deceleration sensor. The timed delay controllers do not provide proportional braking. When using a timed delay controller the brakes are applied at a preset level after a preset timed delay. It doesn't matter if you're going 10 mph or 60 mph the brakes are applied at the same rate.
