First timer!!! Old but new!!! Be gentle with my ignorance!!!
I am in the process of purchasing an '06 Itaska 31'. I plan to use a dolly, with electric brakes, for my toad ('10 Mazda CX-7). Will I need to install an electric brake controller for this set-up?[/QUOTE]
Yes, you'll need a brake contrller. We use a Tekonsha Prodigy for our dolly and trailer. The Prodigy has now been replaced by the Prodigy P2. Both use a deceleration detection sensor and provide proportional braking.
Brake Controllers - Tekonsha
There are several other brands on the market. I would however avoid those that use a timed delay rather than a deceleration sensor. The timed delay controllers do not provide proportional braking. When using a timed delay controller the brakes are applied at a preset level after a preset timed delay. It doesn't matter if you're going 10 mph or 60 mph the brakes are applied at the same rate.
