Equinox behind v10?

Is any one towing a chevy equinox behind a v10? Was wondering how the weight of this car effects performance.

Well it depends on your perspective. The Equinox is about 3750 lbs depending on engine/drivetrain (we had ours weighed, remember in tow there are no passengers) which compared to the overall weight of the motorhome which is about 22,000 lbs. That means you are adding about 16% weight to the rig total so you will know your are towing the Equinox.

Is the V10 capable for the job, yes. We were in the Cascades and Rockies this year and sometimes on steep grades we would be down to 40 mph. To us that was acceptable. For perspective, our prior rig was a 475 hp 1500 ft/lb Volvo tractor pulling a 20,000 lb trailer and Equinox and on steep grades, we too would be down in the 40 mph range.

I don't think you'll even know it's behind you. I had two V10 's and if it wasn't for the rear view camera I wouldn't know they were there.

I am on my second Equinox. This one has the V6 engine. Between the two I have towed them 15,000 miles with no issues.

If you get an Equinox, get the V6 to avoid the death shake that some of the 4 cyl versions experience. Search this forum for "Chevy Equinox and read before purchase. 4 cyl has electric power steering while 6 cyl has hydraulic. Jeep also has some models with electric ps but FCA has admitted the problem and developed a fix. GM has yet to acknowledge the problem.

We tow our Equinox behind our 2013 Itasca - Suncruiser 35P. No problems. But, if I were going over mountains (up or down) I might have my wife drive it separately for better control.

We tow a 4500# (weighed) Honda Pilot behind our 32' Fleetwood Encounter. It's an 18k, V-10 chassis and while we certainly know it's back there, the engine pulls it easily up every mountain we've been on here in the west.

Of course, once or twice it's been in first gear @5000 rpms doing 20-25 mph, but that was extreme. Going up and into Death Valley from the west, but it ran flawlessly and didn't balk once.

I drag 3500 lbs of toad and dolly behind my old 245 hp, 4 speed V10.

I know it's there but, not much difference. Of course I don't try to drive it like a sports car so it's about the same towing or not.

After a bit, I too, forget its back there.

The only time it's to the floor is when we screem up hill's like Fancy Gap.

Otherwise we are chillin at 60 mph. Let them go around me.

Piece of cake! I wasn't doing any of the work. At least it was early spring, so the temp was fairly pleasant. Just took about 45 minutes at slow speeds to get up, over, and then down the mountain then into the valley itself.
