EZ Brake Cable Install Question

Hello,

I recently installed a Blue Ox base plate on our 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee. We purchased the Brute II Flat Tow Bar with the EZ Brake System. Question I have for anyone that can assist is: I am attempting to install the cable that runs from the brake mechanism on the tow bar to the Jeep which travels from the front to and through the fire wall where the cable is then attached to the brake in the cabin. Per the instructions, I drilled through the firewall just behind the brake. Although I had no problem drilling through the first fire wall there appears to be a second firewall OR perhaps into the wheel well. There is a lot of void in-between the two. I don't want to damage anything so I did not continue drilling past the first drill hole I made. Does anyone installed this cable on a 2020 or 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee that can confirm if I am attempting to do this correctly and if I can continue drilling until I breech the other side?

Respectfully,
Rick =-)

Although I have a 2018 GC, mine is also a double firewall with space in between. Like you, I was also surprised.
I also drilled 2 holes in the brake pedal and looped the cable to it for a cleaner result. The rubber brake cover fits over the cable with just a slight bump which you won't feel and I'm glad I did it that way.

Just installed this system on a different vehicle ('15 Ford Explorer) that didn't have this issue.

However, I recalled there was a specific detail in the instructions for your situation. On the instruction sheet, it reads:

On a “double firewall” you will also need to drill a 1” hole on the cabin side layer to allow for a socket to fit inside to tighten the nut on the cable fitting since the threading is not long enough to reach through both layers.
