Fiat quemado

Doggone brake buddy slammed on the brakes somewhere in eastern Arizona and fried brakes and at least one set of bearings. Rolled in to get diesel and was like, "Huh. Somebody stole my hubcaps. What's that I smell burning?" And of course 300 miles from dealer, who was snowed in. Still rolling at the time. Made it to Texas before left front bearings went out, and then the drama really started.

Insurance is more or less covering the claim; they are willing to pay $2100 to fix it, dealer was quoting $6000 but let's assume the insurance company is right. Gotta fix it, fly out to Texas to retrieve it, drive it back to FL and then try to sell it (because we are trading up). Salvage value is at least $600. So let's say $2700 to be done with it, probably $3500 net if I fix it and go get it. Not sure it's worth going through the trouble. We'll see.

Good news is, got a GREAT deal on a 2014 MKX, some dude traded it in with 44K miles on it, looks brand new. Rather think I'm gonna slap an Air Force One in there this time. The Fiat was fun and all. Towed beautifully (without that dang brake buddy) but I dunno. With 1000ft-lbs of torque I reckon I can tow just about anything...

Why not let insurance fix it, post a classified ad on here, and then sell it where it is.

Good thought, it's not that far from Houston so it's in a good market. I guess having a new braking system isn't the worst thing in the world to have.
