First time tower

I will be flat towing for the first time. I have a Ventana 3436 and will be towing a Buick Enclave. Is it necessary to install air brakes (Air Force One) for the tow vehicle?

I'm looking at the Roadmaster Night Hawk tow bar. Any advise?

There are other brake systems if you prefer a different approach, but you do need some type of brake system.

by law, anything being towed that weighs over 1000 lbs must have supplemental brakes. Any vehicle will be over 1000lbs. There are many types. Some types are more convenient and cost effective if you were to change the towed vehicle.

There's nothing wrong with the Air Force 1, but if there's any chance you'll be changing vehicles in next year or 2, I'd do a little research.

I think the Roadmaster Night Hawk is an 'all terrain' tow bar, but verify. That's important. It makes it easier to disconnect in case you're not dead level when you are trying to unhook.

We use the Simi Duo system again with no box to put in and out when towing. I has worked very well for us over the last 3 years. We also have a blu ox tow bar system.

Kampfool,
Just for info, I'd take a serious look at the M & G Braking system. With it, there is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to install on the inside of the toad, FOREVER. And, another good point is, since the M & G unit installs between the master cylinder and the power brake unit, your brake pedal in the toad, NEVER MOVES so, that means you'll never have any interference from the toads brake light switch, in conjunction with whatever kind of wiring you're going to install from your coach, for toad lights.

You have asked an opinion question, and will receive a lot of opinions from owners. The best thing you can do for yourself is to research the different braking systems available and how they work in a towed vehicle. You know your wants and needs and what you are willing to tolerate with your budget. Good luck on your search.

From our perspective, we chose to go with the M&G system as your towed vehicle becomes an extension of your coach braking system. To us, that makes perfect sense, and we are very happy with the system.

Good luck on your search.

Enclave tow

I towed my 2010 Enclave 40,000 miles. No problems, great toad. I have the AF1 braking and 'yes' you DO need brakes and I recommend the AF1 system.
