Flat Towing 2016 Ford Edge Titanium

I am new to towing and recently purchased a 2016 Ford Edge Titanium AWD for that purpose. The owners manual says to disconnect battery to tow. Doing so results lost of electronic entry and all memory lost of the command system. Also need power for the brake control. Is there a way around disconnecting, maybe pull a fuse? What are the issues constituting battery disconnect?

Any help would be appreciated

I have a 2014 Edge and have been towing it for since early 2015. I had a RV repair facility add a 12 volt power line to my 7 way plug so it stays charged and nothing required except to run the engine for at least 5 minutes and go thru the shifting pattern then leave in neutral of course.

Hi ! Welcome to IRV2! We're sure glad you joined the gang!

On most vehicles you can pull the "accessory" fuse without disconnecting the battery. Not sure about yours.

Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

Nope, won't work on the newer Fords. Get on the Ford Chat Line with your serial number and they will tell you exactly what you can and cannot do, and will follow it up with an email if you ask.

On our Explorer we ran a 12 volt line from the coach to the battery and leave the key on and the trans in neutral. Each time we stop for a break I start the engine and run the transmission through the gears as per their instructions.

I believe 2015 is when Ford started to call for disconnecting Bat grd to tow. I put a switch in the grd line of mine and use a jump box to power my rvi2 brakes.
Many run a charge line and add fused outlet for brakes.

Which engine and trans do you have?

I have the 3.5L with select shift automatic transmission. Do you have keyless entry and if so do you just leave your doors unlocked to be able to unlatch the hood?

Thanks for responding

I have PB start and I just leave the door unlocked. When stopped for the night, I turn on to run car. Remains locked till morning when I run before leaving for the day.

I tow a 2016 Edge Sport. I have a Roadmaster towbar and use a Roadmaster Brakemaster brake system. So far I’ve towed the toad about 5000 miles. On my 16 I hook everything up, put the transmission in neutral, then hit a battery disconnect switch I installed. The only complicated thing is you have to learn how to manually lock the driver’s door. I know that sounds trivial but the car has all electronic locks. You have to learn how to remove the cover on the driver’s door handle and use the backup key. I don’t use a charging line.

Thanks for the input. Do you have any problems after
re-connecting battery, pairing phones, navigation system, and other command center related items?
