Flat Towing 2018 Equinox

Flat towing a 2018 Chevy Equinox from NY to FL. 1st day no problem, 2nd day car battery was dead when we stopped. We were able to jump it & everything was fine. 3rd. day would not start again. We have power because windows & radio works but will not start even with a jump and after putting battery charger on it. Anyone else with this problem?

To prevent battery drain, an auxiliary battery charger must be installed onto the tow vehicle and the charging leads connect to the battery of the vehicle to be towed.

I just bought a 2019 equinox. Called gm to see if I could just disconnect the battery during towing. They said no, the battery needs to be charged during towing. The fix Was to connect a hot wire and ground with from the MH battery to the equinox. So far no problems. But, the owners manual for the 2018 says to just pull a couple fuses. Hope this helps.

PS. Equinox. Make sure you run a 15amp breaker and a diode on the hot wire so the towed batt. Is not charging the MH

3 questions.
1. What make, model, year for the RV?

2. Did you get a voltage reading in both instances?

3. Do you have a charge line from the RV to the toad?

I'd guess "no" on 2 and 3. You ran the battery down twice. Keep doing it and plan on a new battery in your future. If you have a standard 7 pin connector trailer plug on the rear of the RV you have a source for a charge line. Find the + or 12+ or similar marking and run a 10 ga wire to the toad battery. Within 6" or so of the + pole on the battery install a 20 or 25A fuse and connect the fuse directly to the battery. Modern RV's switch that 12v pin in your trailer plug so it's off when the ignition is off. So no back feed and no diode needed. The line is fused in the RV and the additional fuse you put in protects the charge line to the battery from a short. It has nothing to do with how fast or slow the toad accepts a charge. That's determined by the internal resistance of the battery and will work just fine off your RV DC electrical system. If you're using a standard pre-wired trailer plug with the male 7 pin plug on the end it, it should already contain the 10 ga charge wire. Find the cut off end at the toad and run that to the battery fuse. We've towed with this setup for over 250,000 tow miles, 3 class A's and 3 toads and have never had a problem or a dead battery. Your toad owner's manual or dealer should be able to tell you how to set up your toad for pulling. GET IT IN WRITING. Some of these guys are not the brightest bulb on the tree.

2018 equinox does not require any fuses to be pulled. I have no problem with mine. Just needs a charge line.
