Flat towing 2019 Elantra

We recently purchased a 2019 Hyundai Elantra manual transmission and want to set up for flat towing. We've seen conflicting info on this -- service people at dealers told us we could, but the manual says not to. I see evidence that 2018 Elantras have been successfully flat towed, and wonder if a change was made to the 2019 model making it not advised, or is this Huyndai wanting to avoid litigation. Also, there are no baseplates from Roadmaster or Blue Ox specifically made for the 2019 model, but I wonder if it differs from the 2018. Any experience or information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Flat towing 2019 Elantra

I have the 2018 that we had setup last year and it has towed wonderfully.

I also noticed the 2019s were missing from the list when the new dinghy guide came out this year.

Not sure why they were removed but this is what their website says.

For the baseplates it took a while for them to show up for our 2018 as well as they dont build them for all cars when they first come out and do them as the market demands etc.. At least that is what I got from the Blue Ox engineer when I called.

As far as the manual goes there is nothing in my 2018 manual for it either. It was a tech note from Hyundai that you could get and the reference in the faq pic above that I used. Plus the annual dinghy guide checks with all manufacturers before inclusion.

Hi ! Welcome to IRV2! We're sure glad you joined the gang!

I wouldn't take a chance on it. If the manufacturer states that it can't be towed 4-down then you will have no warranty! Have fun and keep her between the ditches!

Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

As an update, we were at the dealer yesterday getting oil change on the DWs Hyundai.

Asked service and sales - neither knew why the 19s were removed from towing four down.
