Flat towing

Hello all. After many pull behind trailers we have purchased our first pre-owned motorhome. We purchase a 2020 jeep cherokee trailhawk to flat tow behind it. Has anyone used ' Demco' towing products ? the estimate was $5200.00 from a local RV dealer. Seems a little spendy !!

I rigged my new car up with a Blue Ox tow bar and base plate, A light wiring harness by Hopson, and a Brake Buddy portable for a total of $2000 but I did all the work myself. It took about 5 or 6 hours. If that includes a braking system it is probably a little high but not far out of line. You can see the process for my Equinox in the blog in my signature.

Demco Commander II tow bar, Demco baseplate, and Invisibrake here. Did all the installation myself. About $2K for everything. Very good support from etrailer.

I used Blue Ox baseplate, towbar, and M&G Engineering toad braking system and doing all the work myself I have about $2000 invested in the system.

BTW, the M&G Engineering toad brake is sooooo easy to hook up. One small air hose quick connection and your done.

That does seem a bit high. We have a Demco Commander we use to flat tow our 2016 Jeep Wrangler 2 door. At the time we had a 2010 Jayco Melbourne 29D and the dealer charged us $3,200 for the hitch, rvi brake system, installing the baseplate on the Jeep and wiring for the brake system on the Jeep.

Definitely seems high....even here in Canada.

I was quoted about 4 large for my setup. I decided to do it myself. Got all my Blue Ox gear from Amazon and Ebay. About 1500 all in and did ll the work myself in about 4 hours, including wiring, etc.

Sorry not as familiar with DEMCO products but if you have a gasser and are installing a system on the MH to supply air brakes to the Toad and then the Base plates, tow bar, light hookup, aux brake system for Toad and labor can run that high.

Cost to outfit my Honda CR-V for flat towing was about $2500 which included base plate, tow bar, labor and everything else needed.
