Flat towing a 2014 FJ Cruiser 4WD Auto

Hi gang, looking for some additional info on towing a 2014 FJ Cruiser - 4WD Auto - 4 down and hoping some forum members are already doing this and can validate.

I've seen many FJ's being towed and just not been able to meet up with an actual owner.

Have read the FJ 4WD Auto can be simply towed by:
1 - placing the transfer case in neutral
2 - placing the transmission in park
3 - turning ignition to accessory - so wheel doesn't lock

Obviously there is having the right towing bars, cables, lights, 12v power, braking system, etc.. but the FJ itself (as described) has the needed build to be pulled 4 down.

Sound right?

Appreciate any and all help.

I know there have been discussions on the FJ Cruiser previously on the forum but my foggy recollection seems it needed a driveshaft disconnect.

While you're waiting for somebody to respond, I'll try to go back and dig up some of the old threads on this topic.

eta: Search results

It kind of sounds as if it needs at least rear driveshaft uncoupling. It kind of sounds as if they are being towed without issue once the rear driveshaft is manually removed (somebody said it was "easy" or easier than most vehicles) or an actual driveshaft disconnect being installed so you can disconnect without removing.

But let's see what those who are towing them say.

Thanks theroc, I found some info like that also and also found a more recent blog by a chap that said the FJ with my config didn’t require the shaft to be disconnected.

I may be chasing down the next coach I see pulling an FJ. Ha

Any Toyota / Lexus 4WD product can be towed 4Down IF IT HAS A MANUAL SHIFT TRANSFER CASE WITH NEUTRAL POSITION.

Appreciate the feedback. I’ve got the manual transfer case that I can shift to neutral.
Guess Toyota just wants to stay away from any acknowledgement for liability reasons.

Correct, Toyota no longer approves ANY of it's products for recreational towing behind a motorhome for legal liability reasons.
