Flat Towing a 2021 F150

I wanted to look at a 2021 F150 and asked about flat towing. My 2019 does so I assumed the 2021 would, we couldn't figure it out.

A little later they figured it out and the GM sent me a link to a YouTube video they did. So in case you're wondering.

That looked about as complicated as they could make it. I thought my 2018 F150 was querkey by having to rotate the 2wd/4wd switch 5 times in 7 seconds, but this seems way more cumbersome. Why can't they just have a screen that says "put in neutral tow mode"?

My only guess is you have to do that deliberately so the lawyers designed it.

I'm thinking of buying a new or late model 2WD F-150 to tow behind my DP. It is my understanding that I will need to install a drive shaft disconnect system in order to do this. I think Remco made such a system but recently discontinued making it. So is it now not possible to tow a 2wd F-150.

Lots of different discussions on this and I would suggest verifying everything on your own.

In my situation I use 4WD on a fairly regular basis so I am only focused on it.

When she starts the lengthy process of putting it in Neutral Tow she presses the 2WD button on the 4WD selector. My guess is you need a 4WD selector, but it's only a guess.

On my 2019 in-order to put it into Neutral Tow you have to use the 4WD selector to do so.

Have you called Remco, aka Superior Drive Line ? I thought they disco'd the tranny lube pumps but were still doing the disconnects. I hope they still do as I want to adapt a van to tow when I don't want my pickup as a toad. I haven't' talked to them in several months, so I may be out of the loop.

I looked at the demo and when she switched into neutral tow mode, she left the ignition in accessory mode.... on mine, you need to turn it off to prevent mileage accrual and possible battery draining... a mistake on her part or ????.

Agreed. Make sure everything on the dash powers down! Can't imagine it being any different on this model. I stand outside after locking the door on my 2018 to ensure everything on the dash goes dark. I also have a charge line.

Hopefully, the actual steps are easier than the process she showed. If not, they made the process even worse.

My 2018 is going in for service on Friday. Transmission light! It's been six months since I last towed it. Doubt it's related to towing. still sucks.

Didn't see a way to edit my post. I jumped the gun on thinking that light was a transmission light. Realized on the way to the dealership that I didn't actually verify it in the manual. It was check engine symbol. Just a turbo sensor crapping out at less than 20000 miles....

She went through a lot of extra steps that aren't necessary. All you need to do is Acc mode, make sure you are in 2wd, shift to neutral, select flat tow mode on the screen, turn off ignition.

Same process as before accept you have a screen selection instead of rotatating the 4wd know 5 times.
