Flat towing Chevy Tahoe

Just purchased a 40 foot 2007 Tiffing Phaeton with 350 HP diesel engine. I rather not purchase another car as I would love to have a drive shaft disconnect installed and use my Tahoe as a toad. I am new to this and would like to see if what others think about towing such a heavy toad. I am considering a Honda CR-V but do not would rather spend my money on travel - but only if it is safe to pull such a heavy vehicle with the 350 HP. My buddy pulls his Tahoe but his Tiffin is longer and has more HP. Your advice would be appreciated as it appears to have a lot of long time RVers on this site.

Is your Tahoe not flat towable as is? 4WD with the High/low/neutral transfer case?
We towed a Suburban with our 40’ and 400 HP. Did just fine but only traveled mostly in the Midwest.

I want to tow our suburban but curb weight is 5800 and our georgetown gasser says max tow is 5000 :( completely my mistake since the coach was in storage I bought the suburban under the impression that the Georgetown could tow 6,000lbs ) ooooopppps
I’d say if you can tow it tow it. We have an Explorer we tow now and I can’t even tell it’s back there

Hi ! Welcome to IRV2! We're sure glad you joined the gang!

We pull our CRV with a Cummins ISC350 engine without any problems!

Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

I too would like to pull our SUV flat (Suburban,) my understanding is that if it's a 4wd just put the transfer case in N and go. I pulled a horse trailer with 3 horses in it (7,800lbs) this weekend with my MH for the first time and was very happy with the performance. At that rate our Suburban should be a breeze to tow. If your Tahoe is a 4wd I'd say hitch that baby up!

"Safe" depends on weight ratings, not HP. You'll need to dig up the data on what the coach weighs and the GCVWR and then people can advise you. Basically the difference between the two is what you can tow, limited by the hitch rating.

Flat towing Chevy Tahoe

We have flat towed our Tahoe, Suburban, Yukon XL Acadia, and Ford Explorer. The ‘07 Tahoe was very easy to tow. The ‘15 and later Tahoe, Suburban and Yukon rigs are a bit more complicated to tow but easy as well. Supplemental Brakes are critical. I have used an Evenbrake and now an Air Force One. By far my favorite is the Air Force One.

With a 400 cummins, you will have more than enough power to pull right up to the max allowed. 42' Dynasty, 400 cummins, pulling 2013 GMC pickup
