Flat Towing our Lexus

Would appreciate any thoughts on retrofitting our Lexus RX350 to tow behind our 2024 Jayco Precept. Thanks

First off, Welcome to iRV2!

You might post your year and model of Lexus but as a general rule most of them cannot be flat towed without modification. Always refer to your owner's manual for any recreational towing rules.

1. Check your owners manual for your year make and model in the index.
You need to see what is said under the heading “Recreational Towing”. This addresses whether you can flat tow or dolly tow your vehicle as built by Lexus…..not how much the Lexus can tow behind it.
2. Most, I repeat most AWD vehicles cannot be dolly towed, they can only be trailer towed…..all 4 wheels off the ground.
3. Of course……with enough money…..anyone can modify a vehicle for towing.

You haven’t given the model year of your car so we can’t give you a specific answer. That said, I have never seen an RX being used as a towed vehicle behind a motorhome. Pretty confident that it cannot be flat towed without destroying the transmission. For that matter, I don’t recall any Toyota vehicles with an automatic transmission and front wheel drive / all wheel drive that can be flat towed.

If your Lexus is a front wheel drive (as a opposed to AWD) version you could consider dolly towing it.

I pull a 2000 Lexus RX300 with front wheel drive 4 down behind my coach. I went to the local Lexus dealer when I bought it and they said I could tow it 4 down. I had them write a letter stating I could do that.

I've towed it about 50,000 miles with no problems. Ignition key turned to first notch to release the steering wheel and the transmission in neutral.

Understood, but the OP indicated they have an RX350 which means it is a 2007 or later model year. Hence it’s a different generation platform than your car with a different engine and transmission. I find no indication that later models with the 5, 6, and 8 speed automatics can be flat towed. Your RX300 has a 4 speed automatics, so a different transmission.

I don't believe the Lexus RX350 is designed for flat towing. I had to sell my hard working truck for a flat-towable TOAD. Considered trailering the truck for about a micro second and then faced reality.

Good luck
