Flat towing question for Dodge Dakota P/U

Good afternoon!

I now have a 2004 Dakota V6 2WD and it requires a Remco transmission fluid pump. I've towed it for 7 years with no problems whatsoever.

I am considering purchasing 2007 Dodge Dakota V8 4WD pickup to replace it, as I need 4WD to pull my boat up a slippery ramp. (I'd love a full size P/U but they're all too heavy for my gas rig to tow) I understand that the 4WD can be towed without the Remco pump if certain steps are taken in prepping the 4WD contols before hand.

Has anyone on this forum had any towing experience with a similar 4WD vehicle, four wheels down?

Have you looked online for the owner's manual if you don't have one in the glove box?

The transfer case has a neutral position that disconnects all 4 wheels from the transmission.

Bob, thanks for replying and yes I have checked the owner's manual. It talks about several important sequential steps that must be followed when connecting and disconnecting the toad so things don't get messed up.. Just wondering if anyone actually has experience towing this model year Dakota

Pretty sure you have the NV244D or the NV233D transfer case. The 244D is a AWD (full time) and the 233D is a part time unit. Both are electric shift. There is a certain process to go through to put these in neutral. Why they put electric shifters on 4WD vehicles is beyond me. If you have the original owners manual it'll explain it in there. The owners manual will also tell you if you can flat tow the vehicle.
FYI, I am fairly certain all NP transfer cases of that era are equipped with a neutral and a rear driven oil pump so they can be towed.

Anyone with a 4WD rig needs to know how the rig goes into neutral in the event you ever need to call a tow truck. If they don't get it in neutral correctly the transmission can be ruined. Of course today they usually use a roll on truck and not a hook!
