yep we have done and continue to do both depending on what we expect on the arrival end.

as recent convert to 4 down, yes its very easy and convenient , our edge takes less than 10 minutes to be ready to go.

my only new thing is paying more attention to fuel stops as i cant back up
but so far its pretty good deal

now the hauler trailer...well i have lots of extra capacity and i can back up, it takes about 20 minutes to get car on and ready to go.
both vehicles are four down towable, as well. but i have not done it yet with the expedition.

I haven't seen any mention of weights. You need to be concerned with GCWR of any class C.
