Now we tow a 74 vw bug and enjoy it very much, but sometimes we would like heat or ac.We also have an explorer and have thought about towing it but it is a lot heavier.I wonder how this would effect our mileage.A little or a lot?We have a 31' bounder (2000)with the ford v10.Gas is a bit high right now so I would appreciate any advice. Thanks Bill,Sheila and Beau the swank poodle.

The Explorer is a bit heavy but worth it in comfort when we get to our destination. I haven't tried it in the mountains yet but seem to have lost about .5 to 1 MPG on roads in Florida over the Saturn we had been towing. Heading to Yellowstone next month and will really find out then.

Be sure to check the towing capacity and hitch capacity of your Bounder.

I think the Explorer weights about 2500 lbs more than the beetle.
