Ford Ranger Pickups as a toad?

What year of Ford Rangers 4x4's are good toads. Looking for an extended cab or crew cab 4WD for a toad.

Good luck finding pre 2012 4x4! I have been looking for a while and ones in good condition are a bit rare and pricing is crazy. At the moment towing a 2004 4x2 5 speed manual and it has gone 50,000 miles no issues so no rush for me.

I towed a 2008 Ranger and liked it alot. Just needed something bigger. I still have tow bracket and neutral tow kit for it.

They are indeed flat towable and apparently the base plate installation is extremely easy. As an aside, the Ford Ranger is scheduled for a complete revamp with the 2024 model year.

Good to hear that Rangers can be flat towed. On 4WD versions, how do you tow with no neutral in transfer case? All the Rangers I've seen have the 4WD knob on the dash with just 2WD, 4WD Hi and 4WD Low. Don't see a neutral.

We tow a 2019 Ranger. There is a process you initiate through the dash to put the transmission into neutral tow mode. It’s a fairly simple process.

My buddy has a 23 Ranger. There is a setting in the cluster that puts the vehicle in N. I believe in these newer Rangers the trans is designed to be towed in N. I don’t believe there is a N setting for the T-case.

I just completed an almost flawless 4200 mile trip towing my 2022 Ford Ranger 4WD. The process to put in to and out of "Neutral Tow" is straight forward and the instrument display will let you know when it is ready to tow. The only thing that concerns me is that I get a message at the end of each trip that tells me to check my braking system.

I’ve been getting that message for the nearly 3 years we’ve towed our Ranger and it’s never been an issue.

Install a neutral tow kit.
