Ford Raptor Flat Tow Fires

May 17th 2021 my Raptor caught fire while being flat towed. I have towed my Raptor for over 20k miles and am very familiar with putting the Raptor in Flat Tow mode. I had a friend (witness) sitting with me as I put my Raptor into tow mode because he was curious on the procedure. After the process was complete it showed on the dash ďflat tow mode complete keep vehicle in neutralĒ. Well 250 miles later I had a car come up beside me informing me that my Raptor was on fire. Ford says it was my fault. If you want more details please reply and I will share the details of the year long battle with Ford Motor Company

Holy moly! I'm assuming everyone got out safely. Thank goodness. Looks like one heck of an ordeal.

What caused the FIRE?

Who determined cause of Fire?

What did FORD claim was cause and how they determined you were at fault?

Details.........

**Are you sure it wasn't an MH engine fire that spread back to TOAD??

Awful, I too hope that everyone is okay after the ordeal. Isn't your insurance company(s) covering you, investigating the incident, and subrogating to Ford? If the cause of the fire can be traced to a brake fire on your toad then Ford may deny any claims due to the aftermarket braking system. Insurance companies sometimes sue all parties and let the court throw out those that didn't cause the loss.

Aftermarket brake system? I assume it is the system that Ford put on the truck.

I assume he meant if it had a toad brake system on it that part would be aftermarket

Sorry for your loss. It looks like the Raptor took the Essex with it.

It's really unclear what this is about. The title would suggest that the Raptor caught on fire because it was being flat towed? With the long setup, it already sounds like it was your fault. What would you like from us?

Like others, very curious as to what Ford said caused the issue. While I donít tow a Raptor, we tow a Ranger and I suspect the process to put it into neutral tow mode is similar and if they are saying the fire is related to the transmission not being in tow mode, then Iíd like to know.

One would assume the OP is hoping by putting this on social media he will get more help from Ford. I canít really blame him. ButÖ. Isnít this what insurance is for? It will be hard to prove who was at fault here.

I tow a Ford Raptor so this post caught my eye, especially since it said fires plural. However, this post is about ONE fire a year ago.

I know that one other Ford F-150 issue was posted on here that blew up the drivetrain being flat towed and Ford denied responsibility. I feel sorry for the OP, as it's a big loss. I know people always say, don't you have insurance. At the rate these coaches have rocketed in value, insurance will be far short in covering the costs, especially if you can't afford a new coach to replace it.

I've towed six different vehicles over the years. EVERY TIME I hook up, I always make sure the toad free rolls before I drive off. That doesn't mean something can't fail, but I know it was correct when I started off.
