Whoa there! Before thinking it is the instrument cluster, have you replaced the speed sensor mounted in the top of the differential? It is just a Hall Effect sensor counting magnetic pulses from a tone ring - just like the wheel speed sensors or the Camshaft/Crankshaft Position Sensors. Also, since the issue started after coming out of storage, check the wires feeding the speed sensor. It could be vermin have chewed through the wire bundle there. The speed sensor is very easy to replace.
