Grand Cherokee Flat Towing
So I just went from a 41' 5th. wheel to a 2022 Newmar Kountry Star. I then just bought a 2021 Grand Cherokee Summit reserve to tow behind it. What do I need to buy to get these two to behave nicely going down the road? Looking for simplicity and safety. Have our first trip planned in about 6 weeks and want to get everything set up well in advance to do some local test runs. Thanks!

Here's a link that should help: Towing: Remco Towing – Remco
correction: It appears Remco is not selling towing equipment as of October 1, 2020
I use Blue Ox and Air Force 1, have not had any problems. Both were professionally installed. AF1 has a unit for gas and diesel.

Just look a few posts down and you will get all the information you can stand on the 2021 Grand Cherokees and their idiosyncrasies.

I hate to ask, but is the Summit plat towable? Does it have the correct 4x4 system that allows the system to be put into neutral? The system with 4 wheel low is the only one that can be Flat Towed.

Matt, to answer your question of what you will need to flat tow your GC, here is what you will need at a 40,000 ft level. I am not listing any brand information unless you ask for it. I just installed this equipment on my 2019 GC Overland late last summer...
1. Tow bar - There are many choices of brand and weight ratings
2. Base plate - This will allow you to connect the tow bar to the Jeep. Although there are several brands What ever brand you choose will be specific to your vehicle
3. Supplemental Brake system. There are many different brands and styles of supplemental braking systems. This will come down to which method you prefer and how much you want to spend.
4. Electrical lighting- this will enable your coach lighting to function through your Jeep. Again, there are several choices on how you want to accomplish this. I chose a "plug-n-play" system for my application.
I purposely didn't mention any brand names. If you want to know what brands I chose, let me know and I will send you the links. I installed all the equipment on the Jeep myself. It was not that hard of a job to do...

Toad base plate
Tow bar 2″ Receiver Class IV steel 10,000 lb with safety chains and safety cable
Keyed pin locks to lock the tow bar to the toad
Tow bar cover when not in use
Electrical connector cable
Towed battery charger kit
Flat towing braking system
2" receiver drop for the rv to attach the tow bar
Receiver keyed pin locks
Just did that for my Chevy Equinox..........installed a Blue Ox tow kit and Rvi3 brake system.

Pretty sure the Summit comes with the Quadra-TracII 4X4 system which is flat towable.
We have a 2019 GC Trailhawk and went with a Roadmaster baseplate and we already had the Roadmaster Sterling all-terrain towbar. We added the Demco Stay-N-Play braking system and a wiring harness to utilize the proper lights....we also added a small trickle charge circuit through the wiring connection to keep the Jeeps battery topped off.
We have towed over 10K miles with no issues and while we have experienced the "Death Wobble" a couple of times it was only after a sharp left turn at very slow speeds but it has not been an issue for us and we're very happy with our decision to upgrade from ou previous Wrangler Rubicon Unlimited!

We also have a new Grand Cherokee Summit! This version includes Quadra Drive ll. The difference from Quadra Trac ll is the electronic rear limited slip differential. The most important thing I have learned is to have a dedicated 12 volt tag line from the motor home to the Grand Cherokee battery as the electric power steering will need to be powered when towing. That said, you will need to have the FCA wiring harness and 10 amp fuse installed between the battery, electric power steering circuit and switch provided with the wiring harness. I had the selling dealer install before delivery. I am having all of the tow equipment installed on our Jeep next week. and by the way-"Yup, it's got a Hemi"!
