The transmission is OK; the transfer case must have a neutral position!

Grand Cherokke Transmission

You will need a 4 X 4 with either a Quadra Trac II or Quadra Drive II Transfer Case. As someone said before, the transmission is not the deciding factor.

The Grand Cherokee L model has already been updated in order to keep the steering active while towing but I believe that the Grand Cherokee is still the older configuration and may need the Jeep towing harness. This is a discussion with your dealer.

Everything I've found online says " Trim Level " is the determining factor for flat towing ; so it comes down to the driveline equipment on the individual vehicle .

Lass is absolutely correct....but if you do want to go by trim level then the "Trailhawk" will automatically come with what you need to flat tow...... once you add the baseplate and appropriate wiring..... including the wiring harness mentioned above..... but there's already a LONG thread on that going

If the Grand Cherokee is not "Trail Rated" with a neutral button on the the console it is not towable.

I have not had the Death Wobble either.

The 12v outlet will power the brake booster with the engine off.

This information is from my 2015.

Just had a 2021 GC Summit (WK2) delivered. Dealer installed the above noted harness. I still need to have RoadMaster tow equipment and invisibrake installed. Looking forward to no issues!

There’s a long thread on the harness installation where some of the dealers have not installed it correctly. You can test this by putting the Summit into tow mode and confirm that the steering remains active.

Got rid of my 2017 Summit after only 6 months and really miss it. It was a great vehicle but I just refused to tow it. Plus the harness was designed for 2018 and newer.

The dealer told me that the 2022 Grand Cherokee will have the same setup as the L and the steering still stay active after putting the transfer case in neutral and turning it off. No need for a harness or switches and removing a fuse. I hope he is correct since he has no OFFICIAL word on it. Either way, we are going to order a 2022 Summit and if doesn't I still will have my Rubicon to tow.
