Honda battery tray

I am going to replace the battery in our CRV this week. From a previous thread I got the part numbers 31521-TK8-A00 and 31531-TK8-A00. Are both these parts needed and what about the hold-down across the top?

I don't remember the part #'s but I got a tray for an '05 Odyssey for my '14 CR-V. Then got the '05 Ody battery from Costco. The hold down strap is the OEM CR-V.

Both are required. The two are only $20 or less.
The OEM top hold down bracket fits both the OEM group 51 and the replacement larger group 24.

Sorry for the inverted photos Joe. Mr. Apple and Mr. IRV2 do not see the world the same. This forum seems to be the only one that wants to turn photos taken from my IPad upside down.

I didn't buy the cover. Just the tray.

Is there some reason to have the cover (box)? Looks like only the tray would be necessary, as Lori did.

It's been a while but after thinking about it, I recall going into the Honda dealer prior to buying the battery and asking for a tray for a 2013 Odessy. Across the counter came the two pieces. When I removed the battery, the OEM was two also. I could not see why the cover was used but since I had it and it was fairly cheap, installed it.
The only logic I can think of is to protect the battery.

Would it work without it? Certainly. I can't think of a reason for it but I'm sure Mr. Honda had good reason to design it or he would have saved his money and spent it on designing a better GPS which, besides the battery, is the only problem I have with our CRV.

By the sounds of your post I assume your battery is giving grief? Surprised it lasted this long.
As I was changing mine and finding everything is designed to accommodate the larger battery, why didn't they just install it in the first place? The expensive part, The engineering, was done.

I bought only the tray. The larger battery is a snug fit. The OEM hold down will work with the larger battery. If your battery has not been replaced with the larger battery, you can swap the tray now and do a little maintenance on the terminal post to help that small battery last. YMMV
Happy trails

I dropped Annette off at a department store and waited in the parking lot, listening to the radio. When she came out the starter solenoid would only click. In the lighted parking lot I didn't notice that I had left the headlights on. I was out there less than 30 minutes!

I called Good Sam Roadside Assistance and they sent someone to jump me off. That's when I decided it was time to do something about the battery!

I just ordered the tray online for $8.68 plus shipping, total about $13. The local Honda dealer wanted $19 plus tax and they had to order it also. https://www.hondapartsunlimited.com/...ry-31521tk8a00

Since the larger battery was such a tight fit, I didn't see a reason to take up any more room, & possibly have the cover not fit, by getting the cover. As far as I can tell, it just keeps the battery clean & makes for a neater appearance in the engine compartment since everything else is covered.

I tried to get my local Honda dealership to meet the price from eBay ($10 w/free shipping) only because I could've gotten it right then instead of having to wait for the eBay guy to ship his, but they wouldn't do it. It too was $19 (plus 7% tax) from them & the parts manager said they couldn't go lower due to overhead. I would've thought $10 + tax would've been better than nothing, but they chose nothing. Unless I'd have some recall that'd require me dealing w/them, because of this they won't get any of my future business on anything else.

Hmmm, mine was about $21 CDN for both pieces across the counter. That's about $17.50 US for both pieces. Mind you, that was about three years ago.

Need a little help on the battery type. They have group 24 and 24F. Looks like the only difference is that the positive and negative posts are reversed on the two.

Looking at the CRV and the way I envision the tray fitting in there, it looks like I would need the group 24, not the 24F. Is that correct?

I see that Wal-Mart has their Ever Start Maxx 24F with 750 CCA and a 5-year warranty (3 year free replacement) at $99.97. Anyone find any better deals ?
