Honda Fit Spark Plug Issue

Just finished doing some maintenance on out Honda Fit and came aross a few interesting quirks.

I was running a power line for the new dashcam. In order to go through the firewall, I had to remove the fascia below the windshield and the engine compartment cover, Since I was that deep, I decided to replace the spark plugs. Good thing I did as plug#3 was loose and the coil was scorched.

After reading on some Fit boards, this is not uncommon.

Now for the bizarre part. When I started up the car, I had the stability control (VSA) dash light on, then check engine light came on. I figured I hit a wire while. Well sorta, turns out the 4th coil wire was not fully snapped on and it popped off. I re-torqued all the plugs to 20 ft-lbs and reattached all the wires.

The traction control light would not go out. After reading a few more Honda Fit blogs, I discovered the coil error will often trigger the traction control light.

I hooked up the OBD2 reader and reset the coil errors, but the traction control icon was still on. I decided to run the ABS code scan, and cleared a speed sensor error, then I ran the Honda OEM advanced scan and cleared a PCM error.

Clearing the PCM error extinguished the traction control light.

I decided to try and clear a persistent airbag error. A resistance error in left airbag. I unhooked the negative battery cable, waited a few minutes, reached under the drivers seat and unconnected/reconnected the airbag connector. This connector requires you to slide the locking cover back while unplugging.

Hooked up the battery and all is well.

I once had a plug blow out on my 427 Ford engine, 12.1 to 1 compression ratio. I thought the engine had blown up! Puckers you up

A friend had a spark plug blow out while zipping down the autobahn. Pulled to the shoulder, opened the hood and meting its way into a plastic panel was the errant plug. He pried it loose, screwed it in and off he went.
