I used it "checked several years", IRV2, Blue OX , CURT & Roadmaster - owners manuals. The owners manual as the final check will give you the process. Some you have to leave the car or SUV on while towing which kicked it off my list!
Be sure to note that some versions of the same models in can be towed while other can not. good hunting

Yes, we're just starting to look to upgrade our old 97 Sidekick. Was considering a truck as it's more versatile but after towing our old Sidekick for the 1st time yesterday using our new (to us) MONSTER 45' DP...I'm rethinking the pickup. I don't think I need MORE length behind me.
We pulled the little Sidekick over 10K miles last season in our 32' gas rig and had no issues, but taking it to Coeur d'Alene yesterday I realized how long it took me to get around the corner with the RV & tiny car, I can't imagine having an additional 8 or so feet with a pickup.
So back to the drawing board...CR-V, Rav, Kia??? Any other similar sized SUV's you all can recommend?
I think somewhere I mentioned we prefer a quiet, smooth riding vehicle and I don't think it needs to be 4 wheel drive, and price wise under 20K. But we do want it to be roomy inside and to be able to carry our bikes....
Dang...the more I type the more I think a pickup truck is the way to go...hmmm.
Curious what other 45' RV'ers are pulling?
One last issue, We own a RV site in Outdoor Resorts in Melbourne Beach and I'm a bit concerned that the lot will handle our 45'er AND a pickup truck.
Our current renter actually moved his 40'er up as though it was 45 feet and then showed us his Jeep parked in front of it, and there 'appears' to be plenty of room so that it doesn't stick out into the street...but..still nervous.
Here's the rig with the 'sardine can' Sidekick: (The caption should read, "Does this RV make my car look small?")
