How to connect chains and why?
When hooking up my TOAD to my Class A, how should the run away cables be connected to the MH hitch and TOAD? Up and through or down and through?
Many thanks, I'm never sure and figured i'd ask.... TIA

Are you asking about the "Break Away" cable, or "Safety Chain/Cables" ?
Post a picture of your set-up if possible, that will help a bunch.
Happy Glamping.

The safety cables is what I'm talking about. I don't think the runaway/ supplemental braking system will matter, right?

For a hook on the end of the chain, up and through is considered the most secure.

As long as the safety cables have some type of retention such as a spring clamp or a rubber strap I don't think it matters which way you hook them up. The only requirement is they be crossed under the tow bar, right from the base plate to left on the receiver hitch and vice-versa. Some states require that they be crossed to "catch" the coupler if it becomes disconnected.

I like my safety chains to be of minimum length, and they wrap around the towbar in such a fashion that they support and cradle the towbar should it come loose. I also like my breakaway t be long enough that if my toad is securely held by the extended safety chains, the breakaway brakes are not activated.

I also connect my breakaway cable to something that is not the hitch, so that even if the hitch falls off, the breakaway gets pulled.

I also cross my chains. Motorhome right to toad left and visa versa.
