How to Flat Tow 04 Dakota 4WD
Just purchased an 04 Dodge Dakota 4WD Automatic and I need to know specifically what I need to do to the Dakota to flat tow. I know I need the baseplate, towbar and brakes. I'm talking about the truck itself. Do I put the 4WD switch in neutral and the gear shift in Park? What is the truck procedure? I'm not finding instructions anywhere.
Appreciate any help you can provide.
Thanks, Rochelle

Welcome to iRV2.
Odd that the procedure isn't covered in the owners manual.
I know it was in the manual for my 93 Dakota.
I'll dig around to see what I can find.
EDIT: Remco site says towable , as is with no distance or speed restrictions , then refers to owners manual for procedure. So no real help.
I'll be back.

Pages 202/203 Recreational towing , in the manual I found online .
Key must remain in the ignition, in the off position, to keep the steering wheel unlocked.
Same as my mini van. I installed a battery disconnect to prevent battery drain.

I read somewhere that on some trucks the battery needs to be disconnected when being towed as the key needs to be turned to accessories to allow the steering wheel to turn and that will discharge the truck's battery. Is that the case with this year Dakota? Thank you for all the info! I don't have the owners manual yet and appreciate the help.

Found the manual as a free download here.

I also installed a battery disconnect in the ground cable. I'll post a picture.
