I have been told this is bad,

On a recent trip I was filling up with the toad attached and was advised by another RV'r that my toad angle tow bar was bad.


It was originally installed by Camping world and I thought it was done correctly. When I asked why this is bad I was told I needed a drop down on the RV and that the RV and Towbar should be exactly at the same hight?
It might be a few inches higher but I thought that too is what you wanted incase of an emergency stop, Here's a picture, comments please, should I take this back to Camping world and complain?

There is a spec for that - I think it’s a couple inches either way, but I don’t recall exactly. Yours doesn’t look significant enough to worry about.

The general rule is that if you are within 3 inches you are ok, it is hard to tell in your case as you are not parked on perfectly level pavement. My guess is you are under 3 inches though it might tow a little better if it were closer to perfect, hard to say. If anything you probably only need a 2 inch drop adapter, such as https://smile.amazon.com/Roadmaster-.../dp/B009AQT0V0 When we setup my wife's Jeep Cherokee for flat towing we found that our height was off by right at 3 inches, I had a 2.5 inch rise drop adapter laying in a spare parts bin so I tried it out, and could tell a (slight) difference on stability while towing.

That looks reasonable. I can confirm plus or minus 3 inches for Blue Ox as well. The closer to perfectly level, the less upward or downward force will be exerted on the hitch, which is desirable.

Isn’t it considered best practice to cross the safety cables? Thought I read that somewhere.

WA state law requires the safety cables/chains to be crossed.

Yours looks fine....if you added a drop hitch, it would cause more issues than it would solve.

I believe the chain/cable crossing is only relevant to trailers that sit on a ball hitch. The reason you cross them...... if the trailer comes off the hitch, the "V" of the trailer gets cradled between the crossed chains and keeps the front of the trailer from spiking into the ground. Theoretically, you should be able to slow down and stop with the trailer cradled in the chains. It is probably something people should set up and test when adjusting cable/chain length.

You’ll probably never get it perfectly level, hence the allowable variation. One bumper will invariably be higher than the other.
