Installing toad battery charger on 2021 Ford Hybrid

Have 2021 Ford Hybrid Titanium AWD that I want toad; using Patriot 2 that drains battery while being toad. Do I need a toad battery charger? What type/should I get? Car battery is located in back trunk; how do I wire this to the battery charger so that it is connected eventually to my motorhome 7 pin connector?

We have a Cmax that we have pulled all over the country. Instead of the power line from the coach, we use a jump start/power supply box to power the brake. It has worked well. Ford hybrids have very small 12v batteries and you really want to avoid draining that battery. If you do, the car becomes nonfunctional in spite of having a large high voltage battery in the car that is fully charged.

We have 2017 Ford Fusion Hybrid that we tow for as much as 350 miles in one day and had no problems. We always let it run after arriving to replenish the battery.

We have the exact same model. We had the car setup for towing at Major's RV Service Center in Bourne, Massachusetts in September 2021. The setup included the "RVi Towed Battery Charger Plus". Major's said that the battery could be connected directly to pin 7, but we opted to include the Charger Plus, partially because it allows us to monitor the RV and escape's voltage using the "RVi Command Center Smart Tablet and Hub" (we also have the "RVi Brake 3", which can also be monitored by the Command Center). So far, no issues with the battery.

Check out this video on installing a toad battery charge line. It's kit from Brakebuddy through eTrailer and will charge any 12v toad battery.

Very simple to install. Not fancy. Main thing you need to know is if the kit wiring is long enough to reach your battery location - eTrailer can probably assist you with that.

If you use a normal wired 7 to 6 cable from RV to Toad then you should have +12 and ground available on the back of the 6 pin connector of the toad. On my 2015 Winnebago Vista 27N that 12V feed to the 7 pin connector on the RV is a chassis power ignition on feed fused at 20 amps.

On my 2020 Ford Escape Hybrid Base, I replaced the very small stock battery with a Group 48 AGM battery (if you have a higher level Escape, it may already have the Group 48).

On my Escape, I run the 12 volt and ground from the 6 pin connector thru a 10 amp auto reset circuit breaker to the 12 volt battery jump terminals under the hood. I also run the same 12 volt and ground to a 12 volt power outlet to power the Blue Ox Patriot.

Exact same non proprietary battery charging setup my rv dealer put on my 2013 GMC Acadia when they installed my baseplates, rear light diodes - all Blue Ox including the Patriot supplemental portable braking system.

Have you noticed your Patriot charge light only lites up occasionally? Usually when first plugged in briefly, then the light goes off. The cigarette lighter works perfectly fine, tested it with other devices. Mine is not on continuously, I know there's an internal capacitor holding a charge in my Patriot and the Power and Setup lights flash for about 5 minutes after disconnecting.
