I did a search for information regarding the Smart car - found some reference to big rigs with little garages for them - but couldn't find anything about towing them.
Article in Dallas Morning News today - a marketing event this weekend - part of a national tour - can go see and drive them!
Weighs 1,700 lbs., only 8.8 feet long and 5.5 feet wide and 5.5 feet tall. Comes with what they're calling a "manual/automatic" transmission that can be shifted or just left in drive. Three-cylinder, one liter engine, good for more than 40 mpg.
Here's an interesting fact - (unlike the rumors last year speculating the price to be as much as $30k) - there will be three versions available ranging from $11,590 to $16,590.
Hmmm - cheap, light, economical, funny-looking! Anyone know - can they be towed 4-down? I don't see anything on the Roadmaster or Blue Ox websites for base plates.

Warren, sorry no-one has responded to your question. I am dying to hear the answer myself. My guess is that the Smart Car is so new, no-one knows the answer.
I got the chance to see one of these cars in the Adirondack's a year ago, in the back of a MH with a garage with the car in the back. The MH was from Europe on tour in America for a year. What a cool setup!!
P.S. The MH was a custom coach on a MAN chassis.

Warren, I'm not certain there'd be anything LEFT after towing one of them "four wheels down" as they're so light, but you raise a good question....
Maybe call Tamara at Blue Ox...

Well how about that! Looks promising.
Also, after posting the question, I found the following in the FAQ section of the SmartUSA website:
"Can I tow my smart fortwo?
smart USA plans to develop a tow-bar for the smart fortwo that can attach to the front of the vehicle to allow for flat towing. In addition, the car can be towed on a flat bed."

If you don't want to pull it behind, do it like I did 
But it would be very simple to run it up on a small trailer and save the wear and tear on the little critter
