Love my '05 Liberty 3.7L Sport with only 98k on the clock. Tows great, and gets us where we need to go...

Wrangler for sure
I would definitely suggest a Jeep Wrangler, either two-door or four-door. It's amazing how many people have Wranglers as toads. The automatic can easily be shifted into neutral for the differential and surprisingly into park for the gear. We have towed our JK for 20,000 miles without problems. One consideration is that the Wrangler JK is a pretty heavy vehicle and you really should have a brake booster for the Jeep. At least in our case our RVi brake (which I love) requires power from the lighter which can potentially drain the battery unless you have a special toad battery charge connection from the RV. if you're not driving too long in one day and you run the Jeep as soon as you get there it's not a problem and you don't need that connection. That being said we drove 2 6 hour days without running the Jeep and killed the battery dead, so you do have to be careful.

Towing an SUV
We began towing our 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee and later a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee. They have a transfer case “dot” button which makes it extremely easily to shift the transfer case into neutral for towing. No “special” connections needed and you get all the SUV luxury. Highly recommend the Grand Cherokee with transfer case ‘Dot”. Never had a problem. Very reliable transmissions.

We went from a Silverado High Country down to a 2018 Wrangler Sahara and love it. I really don’t notice the size or weight difference but I like the smaller size of the Jeep at our destinations!

That would be a Jeep Wrangler best toad vehicle out there. Don’t leave home without one.

Best tow vehicle
Many prefer Jeep but it is currently rated as a poor quality vehicle. It’s tough to imagine because they have been making them for so long. They may be good to tow only because of the transmission so try a tow dolly and get a front wheel drive quality vehicle.

Ditto on the Geo Tracker! Lightweight, Baby!!
I have a '98 with auto trans and manual transfer case. There are only two essential drawbacks to towing: which may, or may not, trouble you: (1) the key has to stay in the ignition for the steering wheel to turn freely, and (2) the engine must be run every <200 miles to cause something (the trans?) to remain lubricated. It's so super-light to tow that supplemental braking isn't really needed unless you're ultra-ultra-safety-minded, which device isn't required by most states because it is so lightweight. Mine is/will be for sale if I will ever take the time to figure out a proper price! It's 100% turn-key ready to tow immediately with tow bar, wiring, and stone guard.

4wd to tow
We tow a 2016 Ford F-150 4wd crew cab. It is a great ride and adds a lot of storage. 20k miles and no problems, easy to put in tow mode and no other modifications needed

We had bought a newer Mini automatic and a dolly and then found the ground clearance was almost nil, so we started all over. Ended up with a 17 Wrangler Sport that was all set up with a Blue Ox bar and mount and a SMI Delta Force braking system. Super easy to tow - could hardly tell it was behind our Sunseeker 2650 CDWS. Long story short - we are selling the class C and posted the Wrangler last Sunday for 30K with everything (26000 km) and it sold Monday. Would buy one again in a heartbeat.

Toad
Jeep Wrangler, "RVI" Brake, "JNC660" Jump battery to power the RVI-Brake and provide emergency starting if needed. This system has worked for 15k miles over a year. Charge the battery every 3 or 4 days.

Thanks for that info.
