Jeep Death Wobble

I pulled my 2017 Jeep Cherokee from Austin Tx with final destination San Diego. Before we got to El Paso, It happen. The Jeep Wobble. This happen over a course of two days until I ended up disconnecting my Jeep and Had my wife to follow me in the Cherokee. Now were in San Diego and im thinking to have it shipped back to Austin out of fear the wobble will return.

Any suggestions will help

Have an alignment shop add some positive caster to see if it improves.

Electric steering model that needs wiring harness added to keep power to the steering?

Check caster / add caster.

Most common problem with jeep wranglers is due to loose, worn or binding front parts. Your front axle is different than wranglers but still need to do a good inspection of front end including the bushings that keep your suspension parts in alignment. Also check the steering shaft that runs from your steering wheel down to the steering rack. If the joint is sticking it might cause the wheels to resist moving back to the straight ahead position. A harder to find problem could be a CV axle shaft that could be binding in certain positions when hitting bumps or turns in the road.

I would suggest taking it to a Jeep dealer and having them install the tow wiring harness that activates the EPS while towing.

This is the only fix for 2014-2018 Jeep Cherokees. No amount of changes or adjustments to the steering geometry are going to fix the problem.

Yes, all Cherokees from 2014 have electric power steering (EPS), but the 2019 and newer models to do not need the add-on wiring harness.

Good call BobGed,
Under toads and motor home related towing there is a thread titled "Make Cherokee Flat Tow mode automatic" by dpinvidic that looks like it has a lot of info laid out.

Yes it has but FCA won't say how they fixed it. They are probably afraid that owners of 2014 to 2018 models would what the same fix.

I have a 2016 Jeep Cherokee that had the wiring harness installed when purchased BUT I have still had the DEATH WOBBLE happen to me 3 times in the last 4 trips. I stop, start the Jeep turn the steering wheel back and forth some, turn off the engine and everything works fine again for awhile. So the wiring harness is not the complete answer! Has anyone else experienced this problem? Iím taking it to A Jeep dealer on Friday to see what they can find.

I get the wobble almost every time I tow our 2019 Grand Cherokee. It happens once or twice every trip when leaving a stop sign and making a turn. Normally, I just stop and it resets itself.

I have the same situation with my 2014 Cherokee. My dealer can find nothing wrong. Did you find a solution?
