Jeep Flat Tow: Will Hydraulic Assist be an Issue?

I have a 2008 Jeep that's a semi rock crawler. Its pretty heavy (I need to weight it) with skidplates/armor, 37" tires, and Hydraulic Assist Steering

Has anyone flat towed a jeep with PSC Steering?

I’m currently building a jeep but I’m planning on towing it on a trailer. If something breaks on the trail I can still get it home. Not sure on your question.

Discobayjoe,
While we've owned, built, towed, played with, broke, modified and had a great time with 9 Jeeps in a 35 year period, we've not added any Power assist systems to any of them. So, all of ours have towed and still tow, just fine. I cannot answer you as to whether or not, you will have any adverse affects or, I should say "ill handling" affects of your Jeep while towing it, due to the system you've added. Of all the buddies that tow Jeeps that we know, and, have them fairly modified, none of them has the Power Assist installed.

It will be interesting in the answers you receive. If it were me, before I'd get all the fancy equipment for towing, I'd do the basics and, hook it up, maybe even with a pickup towing it, and see how it reacts. If you use a pick up, I'd remove the tail gate to get a better picture of what the front of that Jeep is doing. Just a suggestion. Good luck. By the way, may I ask, where was that picture taken? Looks dangerously like the actual Rubicon run.

I also wondered where the picture was taken. It's not the Rubicon, I believe I would be able to pick it out if it were.

I h ave PSC assist on my 2012 along with 37s. It flat tows just fine.

When I had my '12 JK and flat towed and I added a Redneck Ram kit (similar to PSC) I had no issues with steering while being towed.
Good luck.

Yeah,
It's been oh, at least 8-10 years since we've been on the ole Rubicon trail. And, I figured like many other WELL USED trails, parts of it would have been sort of "re-arranged" at certain points due to massive use and weather. It sure looks like the same terrain. Maybe Dusy-Ershim (never been on that one).

If you're running just a standard PSC single ended ram and still have your mechanical connection (tie rod, draglink) you're going to be fine. If you had full hydro that would be a different story.

I tow my buggy (full hydro) and tow my '04 LJ (hydro assist) simply because the tires are too expensive to ruin. Your MT/Rs are great tires for the Sierra Nevada and should last on the highway behind your coach too.

DiscoBay like Discovery Bay? Have friends there.

I do the Rubicon once or twice a year. This photo was taken on SlickRock trail near lake Alpine up highway 4, somewhere 50-75 miles south of the Rubicon as the crow flies

Nice! Yes, I have a nice little place on deep water. Going to rent it out for awhile as we go semi-fulltime and then eventually keep it as a retirement weekend getaway.

Slickrock doesn't surprise me, same kind of terrain but not a spot I recognize. Been a few years since I've been there.

Done the Dusy once years ago. I should get back there!

I'll be in the Rubicon tomorrow, my 106th thru 108th days this year. I know the trail pretty well.

Good to know about the flat tow & hydro assist. I was gonna suggest removing the mounting bolt on the ram tie rod clamp end and securing the ram up out of the way. I'm glad that's not necessary.
