Jeep Grand Cherokee Dinghy

I just purchased a new Jeep Grand Cherokee. Reading the book, it says that after putting the transfer case in Neutral, you put the vehicle transmission into park. That just sounds so strange . Also reading the "Motor Home Dingy Guide for 2011" it says that you need to disconnect the negative cable from the battery. The book does not say anything about removing the battery ground. My Battery is under the rear 2nd row seat.
I trying to find out from others who tow this vehicle, do you remove the negative cable, since you turn off the vehicle and leave nothing on.
Is there anything else I should be aware of with this vehicle.
Thanks....

If you disconnect the battery , the speedometer does not register miles when towed. Install a switch in the wiring that is easily accessable.

The xmission information is correct. First put the xfer case in netural and then the xmission in park. Then first click the steering column to free up the steering wheel. The battery disconnect part dosen't sound right, but could be true for the newer models. Your safest bet is to follow the instructions in the owners manual.

Most, if not all the vehicles nowa days have electronic speedometer, so no matter if the batt disconnected or not, it does not show mileage. I had a 07 Jeep Grand Cherokee and it did not show the mileage when towing.
