Jeep Wrangler Prices

I am looking into used Wranglers for a toad. I understand that they hold prices very well but I'm getting ridiculous pricing.

For example: I found a used 2012 Sport for $22,799. I found the window sticker. In 2012 the MSRP was $23,865. It has 20,700 miles on it.

This is not the only one. I know I can negotiate that price of $22,799 down but I feel like I should bid a major low ball on that because it's so high.

Or is this just normal?

Wrangler prices are crazy here in GA too. I've seen rusty pile of parts CJ's for $3-4K. KJ's from '12 up are usually in the $20K's.

I saw a similar thread recently where the advice was to the effect - if you're looking at 2015 and later - just as well buy new.

I just picked up a '99 TJ SE for $4,500. I've seen similar for over $7K. It's got the boat anchor 4 cyl, but it'll do for a beach buggy....

Hubby found me a 2000 Jeep wrangler sport with 4.0 L engine for $9,500. It had 108,636 miles on it. Runs really well, plan on using it for a toad, and I also drive it for my business, mostly in winter on snow. ( ok, so that's the plan...but I am having too much fun driving it to put it up until winter...)

I was looking through a buying guide a few weeks ago and it had a resale rating and while I can't tell you exactly how it was figured, the Wrangler was 80 something and virtually every other truck/suv type vehicle was around 50 from what I remember.

A dealer was telling me something similar, that Wranglers hold their value like no other vehicle.

Here in NE. Ohio which not a off-roading area. I'll see used ones sitting on the lot for months. Just checked Car.com for our area and yes, they are pricey. $14k to $20k ( 2007-2010's). New 2017's $37k to $42k Wow. Got my new Toyota Tundra Limited 5.7 for less than that...

You see them on dealer lots for months because dealers buy them cheap on trade-ins, so it doesn't cost them much per month in floor fees. Most trades are from people who don't like the ride or don't like the fuel economy or both, so they are ready to trade.

We went new partly due to the cost of a used Wrangler. Figured it was better to get a warranty and not have to worry how the vehicle was driven prior to us.

Anyhow yeah they seem to be expensive on the used market.

Wranglers have always been a vehicle that holds its value very well. I bought a 1998 in 2001 with 50K miles for $15,000. Sold it about 8 months(2016) ago with 130K miles and got $11,000 for it. Got 15 years and 80K miles out of it for $4K.

Just bought a new JK and it was $39K but I expect it to hold its value well too. The actual cost of a vehicle is what you pay for it minus what you sell it for. Hard to beat a Wrangler for long term value.
