Kar kaddy pulling to right ouch

I'm new to both motorhome and dolly. Have a 2002 Rexhall Aerobus, 37' dual slide, gas, F53 chassis. Bought a used (2010) Demco Kar Kaddy dolly. Had it checked out by mechanic (though he admittedly didn't know what to look for other than an overall look at brakes etc.). First time loading 2007 Honda Fit on dolly, first time down the road (ever) I saw in my rear view camera that the dolly was towing a little to the right of the RV. The right wheel of the dolly was on the berm's white line while the motorhome was dead center in the lane. After about 5 miles the dolly began to drift even further right. Finally pulled off highway and found that the dolly wheels were turned sharply to the right and the car was now crooked so badly I had trouble loosening not only the wheel straps, but had trouble getting steering wheel loose to put key in ignition. This told me there was a ton of sideways pressure on everything. I finally got car off. Wife drove car home. While driving the motorhome back, saw in rear view that dolly was tracking perfectly behind me. I must have done something wrong. Loaded car crooked maybe? (I had only a short space in driveway to get it on so didn't have room to drive straight at dolly for a little bit. Had to guess at it, but it looked straight to me.) I'm totally lost here. Don't know what to do. Afraid to try it again for fear it will be worse. Ideas?

Your dolly has steerable wheels, so, without knowing much more, I'd look first at the steering system. Make sure that is free, and not sticking. I don't know if it has lube points, but you could check that.

It can only get crooked if the car wheels steered or shifted in the straps.

Did you make certain that the steering locked or expect it to. Some don't lock until the steering wheel is turned some.

Make the car and steering wheel straight on the dolly, use a ratchet strap to the brake pedal to hold it that way and make sure the tire straps are tight, with both front wheels against the stops.

When towing empty, a lock pin needs to be in the dolly steering. When towing a car, it must be removed.

Agree with twinboat. If the car is loaded crooked or the steering isn't locked perfectly straight ahead the dolly will be off center.
