Light wiring for toad?

my 2001 Jimmy that I am wiring up to toad, can I just plug into the existing trailer wiring to make the light work and charge the battery? the juice would be going backwards.

or do I need to wire with some kind of wire kit?

Maybe.. Depends on how the connector on your Jimmy is wired.

It won't do MACH 2, but I can get a sandwich and take a pee.

On my 2000 chevy Silverado I ran separate wires to the 7 way motorhome plug to the rear of toad I used the drill in bulbs in the tail light but you could use dioides ,if you run a charge wire from the mh use 10ga.

Please don't plug into the trailer hitch wiring.
1. Buy a wiring setup designed for your vehicle
2. Buy a separate bulb setup and drill into the existing reflector
3. Buy a universal diode setup.
I did the first with my Wrangler

Demco might make a vehicle specific wiring harness.
We got one for or toad.
Very easy to use.

Check eTrailer, they sell lots of different vehicke specific plug and play harnesses. That's what I used on my Wrangler. No cutting and splicing in diodes. Very easy to install.

I use a seven pin female connector to the coach with a four foot lead to four pin connector on the Toad front valance using the ground, tail light, left turn and right turn terminals of the the seven pin connector.

The wiring from the four pin connector to the harness at the rear of the Toad is wired directly into the corresponding existing wiring as ground, tail, left turn and right turn using diodes to eliminate back feed into the toad harness.

Seven pin female connector $3.99
Four pin male and female connectors $4.95
22 feet of four wire cable $11.00
Diode kit....$12.00
Total $32.00 and two hours of my time.

Uses existing bulbs in the rear of the Toad, 10 years of operation no problems and total cost is cheaper than a custom harness from a national supplier alone.
