Lightest pickup truck to tow?

I have a small Class A (Safari Trek). I'd like to tow a small pickup truck behind it. Close to 2000 lb. Preferably 4WD (but not necessary!) and preferably towable with 4 wheels down. Of course, it's well known that there were small pickups in the 1980s and around then, and that they aren't manufactured anymore. But, I don't want to maintain an old vehicle. So, my question is, what's the best I can do now? Are there small pickups around that are less than, say, 15 years old? Thanks!

About 4000-4500 pounds for a new Ranger, Canyon, or Tacoma— about the same as a Jeep.

Can’t think of anything truckish any smaller/lighter than that.

I’m towing a 2020 Ranger 4 door 4 wheel drive, Lariat package with a full tank of gas it hits the scales @ 4737 pounds. Prior to it towed a4 door Wrangler which was about the same. I think the Colorado/Canyon is a little heavier comparably equipped.

I was towing a 1987 Suzuki Samurai. Want to find something light, but newer, less maintenance. I was thinking pickup truck would be light. Maybe I'll have to consider newer SUVs. I think there are compact SUVs lighter than 3000 lb.

A 2010 1LT 2wd Extended Cab Chevy Colorado weighs 3560 lbs. I don't think you are going to find much lighter than that.

*edit...A 2010 XL Standard Cab Ford Ranger weighs 3000 lbs so there's that too.

You might try a Chevy Equinox or something along those lines, probably down around 3K and flat towable in several configurations.

Any SUV will be at least 3000+ pounds. About the only thing in the weight you want is your old Samurai or maybe a Smart car, which can also be used as a casket.

I towed a Tacoma 4 door that scaled at 3,400 lbs. A 2 door should come in at 3,000 or less. I did use a drive shaft disconnect as it was the lighter 2 wheel drive.

Chevy spark, smart, mini cooper. All in the middle 2k weight range. All fwd. Don't think there are any 4wd less than around 3k weight.

As others have already mentioned, I don't think you're going to find any pickup in the 2,000 lb range. Even those old Datsun and Toyota pickups from back in the 70s were still a bit over 2,000 lbs.

One that hasn't been mentioned and is actually manufacture-approved for flat towing without modification is the Nissan Frontier 2WD or 4WD with a manual transmission in that 2004 or earlier range. That might be too old for what you want but they're pretty reliable if you can find a good one. Still, their curb weight in the 2WD version is still at about 3,700 lbs. and add about 600 lbs for the 4WD model.

I pulled a 1991 Mazda Miata for a year or so. It weighed 2,200 lb.

Good luck finding any truck or SUV weighing 2,000lb or even close to it.
