If you custom built an aluminum single axle with say 19" g-rated tires you would be a couple hundred pounds lighter than a double axle with 16" e-rated tires.

Hi Ricky,

Nice looking trailer, I could see where some weight could be taken off by shortening it.

Hi Crasher,

You are the second highly respected member on here that has told me that in the last week. From what I have read on here if I go over 5000lbs here the groups will open up if I did it :-)

Hi VanDiemen,

That's interesting to here, would a single axle have to loaded connected to the coach?

Oh gents,

What's the ball park cost of a custom Alu trailer?

I would also need to factor in 2 Kayaks, roof racks with 4 Yakima j cradle kayak carriers. Also the weight of a hitch on my the car to move the trailer.

I think I need a DP :-)

I paid $4300 for a standard 23 ft Featherlite in 2003, and they aren't getting any cheaper. The other big dog in the aluminum trailer world is Trailex https://www.trailex.com/products/pc/home.asp A friend has one of these and the construction is of different extrusions that appear to offer more length variation possibilities. Maybe one of these could be customized for your needs.

Thanks George,

Had a think about it today and storing a trailer at home is prohibitive.

Check out Trailex. Lots of racer friends like them. Use extruded aluminum so very light and no rust

I've seen a trailer with the axles on a pantograph such that the deck drops all the way to the ground. With a setup like that it would mostly store under your MH, or just park tour car on it.

Certainly respect the OP’s decision to forego a trailer, would just add that I have a 15 year old featherlite that we occasionally haul the wife’s Golf Sportwagon, my race car, motorcycles, tree limbs, mowers, you name it. It’s light enough that I can push it around our large concrete pad by hand. Aluma and Featherlites can be found used and they don’t rust, so you can hang onto them forever it seems. Trailex brands are light but expensive, the road racing crowd loves them.

Thanks both for posting, I decided against a trailer due to storage limitations at home and don't what to pay another 50$ a month for storage.
