Locks on base plate pins

When hooking up tow bar to base plate and than putting in pins and locking pins ,is it OK to use locks in stead of the clip pins.

Yes. I will occasionally use locks depending on where I'm going to be overnighting. Some will caution you that if your rig catches on fire, it will be difficult to separate the toad from the MH. I figure if that happens that will be the least of my worries.

I don't normally use locks on those pins but as USMCRET states, I will use locks if I am connected and stopped for the night. If I disconnect then there is no reason for the locks. All of my other connections do have locks.

We never use locks on the pins. If we are hooked up overnight or even if shopping and have the toad set up we just remove the key and lock the car.

I have a set of three locks that use the same key. They lock the pins and hitch. All secured.

Don't use them. Used to. Misplaced the key. Had a heck of a time getting it off.

I catty extra pins and clips. Check they are in place after every stop.

Definitely a good idea. Use at least one. A number of years ago we stopped for lunch at a diner on the way from Springfield, MO to Branson. There was another class A and toad in the parking lot. When we came out it was surrounded by police cars and no toad. Someone had evidently disconnected the toad, broken the driver window and stolen the toad. I got locks the same day and have locked mine ever since.

I lock mine with big red Bolt or Stratec locks. This works twofold as it lets any would be thief know it is locked without them having to get close and they use the same key as the ignition so I don't have to look for the key.

I've used locks since I started towing a car, about 20 yrs now. I have the same set of locks I started with and have had no issues. It prevents the pins from falling out if the clips should somehow fail or be removed by persons unknown

If you disconnect the toad and go to a restaurant or store, what do you do then? You lock it and take the key with you. How is that different than locking it and taking the key with you when it's hooked up for towing? Yes it's an extra step you have to remember and do but it takes a total of 20 seconds.
