Here is the correct and incorrect way for the spring or hitch pins.

Well if installed like the picture on the right the spring clip can easily flip over and expose the main part of the linch pin to fall out. The circle spring is not over center like that. Just the flick of your finger will cause it to flip up.

Even if there were no way for safety cables or anything else to disturb the pins if they are installed like the picture on the right they could flip up and potentially release the linch pin.

I guess I'll just stick with hair pins. You don't have to be very smart to get those in properly.
