Mini Countryman
Is anyone towing this model 4 down? I found base plates listed but not for the S model. We are in the pre purchase mode and the wife wants one badly. I'm not sure.

The only way to know for sure is to read the owner's manual. Don't believe the words of a dealer or service manager, READ THE BOOK.

I tow a Clubman 4 down, hook it up, put manual transmission in neutral and go.
The only restrictions I can see for towing a Countryman after reading the manual is manual transmission only and no ALL 4 option.

I'd agree, I read through the manual and it is pretty vague about towing. Usually manual will state distance and speed restrictions, if any. They are cute cars with awesome handling, but my buddy in Denver has a mini. A blown engine costs over $10,000 replace! He luckily found a shade tree mechanic to rebuild his engine for much less.

I'm now hearing about reliability issues as well, especially on the bigger 4 door models. Thx

You might check this out this site. Remco : The Towing Experts Enter the year, mini, S, trans type and see what they say. Appears the standard shifts are towable but I don't know the year model you are checking out.

I just purchased a new 2014 Mini Countryman S with the 6 speed manual, specifically for towing four down. As far as I know, only BlueOx makes a baseplate for this model.
Also purchased the BlueOx Alpha towbar, Patriot brake system, bulb and socket light kit, and tow shield to protect the front of the Mini. Everything went together well. Just got back from a 650 mile trip (including both ways over Cajon Pass, CA). No problems whatsoever.
