When looking at toads, you will find several vehicles that can be a toad. Do yourself a favor and dig into what it really takes to pull that toad.
- Do you need to get the toad out of neutral tow mode when stopped overnight or for a long excursion during the day?
- Do you need to run a charging line to the toad battery or face the reality of a dead battery in a modern computer-run vehicle.
There could be other considerations, but those are the ones with which I am familiar with my Ford Expedition.
The Jeep Wrangler is a popular toad for a reason. When you put the transfer case in neutral and the tranny in park (or gear in a stick), you can leave it that way for days and the battery will not discharge any more than if it were parked in your garage.
The only other vehicle I am aware of that is even close to the ease of the wrangler appears to be the Chevy Silverado 1500 line of trucks - once you get it setup with a battery disconnect switch.
If you fit in the Wrangler it is an easy choice. There are, however, limitations with both leg and headroom. If your head hits the speaker bar instead of the headrest, consider the consequences of getting rear ended. At 6’ 5”, I am a no go on the Wrangler. I wish I fit in it.
