It depends on your use case. The car that meets your needs is the best. Jeeps are very popular toads. Personally we tow a Ford Escape Plug-in Hybrid and love it, so that’s the best for us. It actually has a tow mode setting. We have a large solar array at home, hence the plug-in hybrid.

We tow a Chevy traverse. Equinox’s are also flat towable but check on the year.

Ditto on both depending on your Use Case and Equinoxes (Equinoxi?).

FRVA.com (née FMCA.com ) in their January magazine just published the new toads. They are getting fewer and fewer every year.

You can also search on the internet and find tow guides for multiple years.

We tow a 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland. We use a Blue Ox tow bar and a Demco Air Force One brake system.

That's strange, I just looked in the owner's manual for our 2018 Traverse and it said it was NOT flat towable.

Goes to show it can change from year to year. Need to be careful and do the homework.

We tow either my 2020 Jeep Gladiator or my wife's 2022 Jeep Wrangler - both have the 8-speed automatic transmission.

2024 Maverick hybrid here. I was very hesitant buying it but it turned out to be a great vehicle for us. It’s light and surprisingly has a good amount of interior space. Very easy to get in and out of neutral tow. I did the install of the base plate and braking system myself with all of the how to’s posted in YouTube.

We were just in the market for a toad, but ended up buying a little bit older.
On the new side, many of the jeep products are flat towable and the Chevy Equinox is too (don't know about the 2024 and 2025 model years years).

Flat towable is getting more difficult to find in newer years, especially if you dislike jeep products as we do.

When looking at toads, you will find several vehicles that can be a toad. Do yourself a favor and dig into what it really takes to pull that toad.

- Do you need to get the toad out of neutral tow mode when stopped overnight or for a long excursion during the day?

- Do you need to run a charging line to the toad battery or face the reality of a dead battery in a modern computer-run vehicle.

There could be other considerations, but those are the ones with which I am familiar with my Ford Expedition.

The Jeep Wrangler is a popular toad for a reason. When you put the transfer case in neutral and the tranny in park (or gear in a stick), you can leave it that way for days and the battery will not discharge any more than if it were parked in your garage.

The only other vehicle I am aware of that is even close to the ease of the wrangler appears to be the Chevy Silverado 1500 line of trucks - once you get it setup with a battery disconnect switch.

If you fit in the Wrangler it is an easy choice. There are, however, limitations with both leg and headroom. If your head hits the speaker bar instead of the headrest, consider the consequences of getting rear ended. At 6’ 5”, I am a no go on the Wrangler. I wish I fit in it.
