Motorhome & Jeep not communicating

So this is what I mean…In the middle of a 3 month, 7,000 mile trip, my Jeep lights stopped responding to the motorhome. My umbilical cord was pretty worn so I bought a new one. Not the problem.

So my question is: Is there a fuse that may have blown for the 7 prong motorhome socket? I’m hoping for an easy fix so I don’t have to travel back to Reno from St. Augustine, FL where we are currently without Jeep blinkers. The brake lights still work as the toad brake pushes the pedal down. I can’t imagine trying to find a shop on the road to look at it. And I imagine mobile techs probably don’t work on that type of thing.

If there is a fuse, any idea where I might find it?

Thanks

Steve

I think the Open Road is on the F53 chassis. If so there is a fuse box under the hood that will have the fuses for the trailer lighting.

Two things to check, you need to use a voltmeter. You can pick one up at any auto parts store or on Amazon for $10.00. Check and see if you have 12 volts at the back of the motorhome when you turn on the running lights or brakes. If nothing, you need to hunt down the chassis fuses.

Second, did you have the Mopar wiring harness installed on the Jeep when the wiring was done. If so, there are a couple of fuses used by that harness under the hood. Nothing will work if those fuses went bad.

Thanks guys. Makes sense that I need to isolate the problem. I really appreciate your advice.

Add inexpensive volt/ohm meter and 12v test light to your “must have” tool list. Dons advice is spot on.
Best of luck, and if nothing else you’ll be fine with just brake lights only…temporarily.
