Actually, should only take a couple of hours to install a base plate and your local hitch supplier will have them in stock more than likely.. If you have experience make it 1/2 hour.

With all the electronics on vehicles today I don't know if you could disconnect the drive shaft and tow on a dolly with out any problems. If its a newer Jeep there is break lock traction control, and role over avoidance that work off the breaks that monitors individual tire speed. With 2 tires down and 2 tires turning I don't know what that might do to these systems.

Disconneting the drive shaft is not going to effect the electronics one bit.
Because the ignition doesn't have to be on.

4-down, xfer in N, trans in P, roll. East-peasy.

Have no idea why anyone would wanna go thru unhook/rehook of drive shaft.

Back when cars had real bumpers, yes. I'm guessing those haven't been available for at least a couple decades though now.

Congrats on the NICE present !!!

Yessir, gave away one of those chain on bumper pulls - used to hook it onto the front of my 85 cj-5 that had a channel front bumper and worked fine !

Would probably get arrested now for using it though

And I too liked autos in jeeps for 4 wheelin a LONG time ago.... better control IMHO...

just easier to ease the throttle to climb those big rocks and not have to worry about heel and toe AND clutch at the same time - but to each his own..

I did the same a long time ago, but with plastic bumpers now a days I do believe they have stop providing those.. too many liabilities.

would you not be able to put the back wheels on the dolly with the tranny in park in 2 wheel drve and the seat belt throught the steering wheel?

Question is, do you want to spend some extra money on a tow bar that is a "ball hitch," or wait and get the "receiver hitch?"

Question is, do you want to play with the new tow on this trip? Renting a car, even a jeep, could be another option if money is no object.

Question is, do you want some "quiet time," driving? Let DW drive the Jeep as you suggested. (Don't let her read this part.)

Wane, unfortunately the OP just said "Wrangler" which covers from '87-'13 so we have no idea what bumper he's dealing with. Those tow bars you linked are good solutions to towing wither a YJ ('87-95) or TJ ('97-'06) however the JK bumper is not suitable for mounting that type.

OP, what year did you get?

Actually, if you really want to take the trip (and your wife is able) I would remove the front driveshaft and just drive the Jeep in two wheel drive for this trip. That way you don't have to mess with connecting and removing the rear one as suggested in an earlier post.
