2017 Ford Taurus no mods whatsoever. Simply put it in N and go. Ford Fusion is almost as simple. Many Fords are easily towed w/o modification

2020 Ford Escape Hybrid Titanium with AWD but without panoramic roof will come in around 35000 but then you still need to pay for baseplate, wiring, brakes, taxes.

SE model cheaper than Titanium and dealers might be willing to make a deal. Front wheel drive models are cheaper than AWD.

It is a small SUV, so test drive to make sure it fits all your needs.

I'm sure you'll get plenty of answers. Honda CRV is one of the most popular 4 down towables. Only before a certain year (I think 2014 and earlier- please check to confirm year) and you must perform specific shifting procedures prior to towing. We were ready to buy a classC and did a lot of research, but went with a travel trailer instead.

I haven’t looked for a TOAD since 2003 when I bought my 2004 Jeep Liberty 4x4.
It’s been great and it will be 17 yrs old this yr.
Looks like new. Runs great, minimal repairs.
Mostly from age and wear. Nothing big yet.
If I was looking right now, I’d be getting a Wrangler 4 door 4x4.
