Radio Radio, I’ve never heard of an optional transfer case from a dealership. The Jeep has a transfer case and upgraded transfer cases are usually third party for extreme off-roading. There are mods for the standard transfer cases to make shifting easier but I haven’t seen an issue with my JL transfer case except during the break-in period which reduces the stiffness of shifting between 2 & 4 wheel drive and neutral.
What optional transfer case are you talking about.

The optional case also provides all wheel drive which is nice when switching back and forth between dry and where it might be slippery.
I think it’s only available on the Sahara.

It’s like the standard case with an additional position which is all wheel drive. Nice when switching between dry pavement and slick roads.

I think that RadioRadio is referring to the Select Trac full time 4 wheel drive system. Optional coat of $595.

I take it that still would be 4 down towable with the optional gearbox? I'm still holding out for the Jeep pickup.

The system shows a “neutral” position so I would say yes.

3600 tow miles on our JL with the optional transfer case, so far so good. Of course now that I said that we will have some issue

New Jeep: JL or JK?
2018 JL Rubicon. I went with the Maximus3 towing brackets, CoolTec harness for taillights, and the CoolTec 12v wiring kit which turns the 12v plug hot all the time. This all was easier to install and a cleaner look than the ugly baseplates and bulb in socket kits which cannot be used on the JLs with LED lights.

I bought a harness for my JL, will probably install it in April.
I have been using magnetic towing lights on a bar that I put in the Jeep hitch and plug into the Moho. I built a class 3 hitch that is hidden behind the license plate bracket when I’m not towing.
Remember that the JL has lots of aluminum, the optional transfer case for full time if you want etc.
My 4 door JL weighs about the same as my old 2 door did. New one offers an 8 speed auto over the 5 speed too. I think the 2019 offers other axle ratios. If so for regular driving a 3.73 would let you use 8th gear more. If you are going to bigger tires I would want 4.10’s if available.
I made a T bar that goes into the hitch with lugs for the tow bar. It has many miles on it.

Looking for the real life weight difference between the JKU and the JLU. Seems the JKU weights I have seen posted run 4500 to 4800 in tow trim. Looking for actual weights from owners of JLU's for comparison.

Weighed my JLU Rubicon 2 days ago and it sits at 4725 lbs. Steel bumper option, baseplate, full tank of fuel.

A built JKU (Dana 60's, 37's or 40's , spare tire with bumper, winch and bumper, electronics, cooler, tools, spares, etc) and a hardtop will weigh in the 6000 lb range. I have two, the one on 37's is 6000, the one on 40's is 6200.
