New to towing

My wife and I have been rving for 18 years and had a 34' Fleetwood and did not have a tow vehicle. Having upgraded to a 2020 45' Allegro Bus OPP and have just had an etrailer tow system installed for our 2020 Chevrolet Equinox. I have been reading the Forums for quite awhile and found them very helpful. So as a newbie at towing would some of you road warriors give us some helpful hints and dos and don'ts and how to inspect our equipment. Thanks!

IF you get into a 'situation' and have to backup...disconnect Chevy, move it out of the way before backing up

What precisely did etrailer install, since they sell several systems for the Equinox?

Which baseplate?
Which tow bar?
Which supplemental braking system?
What did they install for a battery charge line?

Without that information all you can get is general information and tips.

So I'll offer one general tip.

As you know, both tow bar arms must be locked prior to towing the car. The problem is that usually only one arm will lock because the car is a bit off-center.

To get the other tow bar arm locked faster, turn the steering wheel one-half turn in the direction of the unlocked arm. As soon as the car starts to move, it will steer towards the unlocked arm, extending it and locking it.

In case it helps, I've attached the checklists I use to connect and disconnect my 2020 Equinox Premier AWD.

This checklist is written for my towing equipment:
  • Roadmaster Nighthawk tow bar
  • Demco baseplate
  • Demco Stay-IN-Play DUO supplemental braking system

Unless you have the identical equipment you'll need to edit it a bit. If you decide to use it, of course.

HTH,

Ray

Nice. So very close to mine except you have a DP. If you're into using checklists the ones I posted will be very close.

If you have an Android phone, this is the app I use where I keep those checklists. If you want, I could email you the actual exported checklist files for an easy import into the app. Unfortunately the forum does not let me attach CSV files but I could attach them renamed as a .TXT if you know how to rename files.

Unfortunately, that fellow does not have an iPhone version available.

I did spring for the Demco CoachLink wireless brake indicator. I was able to find one on ebay that was from the original company, SMI, for about half of what Demco wants. That red LED strip in the car can be difficult to see
