New Toad Owner

So - ended up buying a 2008 Jeep Wrangler today to tow behind our 2017 FR 2400 R MBS Sunseeker. The Jeep has a Blu Ox baseplate, but nothing else came with it so I am chasing down the parts needed there. Also, it has a small, round 7 pin wiring connector in stalled above the baseplate, so I think I am Ok on the lighting side of things. Now the big question - supplemental braking system. My wife and I are trying to sort through that is a good system, but not breaking the bank at the same time. I have seen some threads here where the Patriot seems to be losing ground as compared to other, newer units. What is, or, are good units that are reasonably priced and is Amazon the better place to try to buy discounted? Appreciate any feedback here as I am not sure where to start at. Talked to a RV service area today and the number bounced around was $2500 to $300, which I though was way on on the high side. Thx for any feedback you can offer.

Check out the Ready Brute Elite. Tow bar and brake system all in one. Does your base plate have the removable pins with it? If not, you will need those and Ready Brake has adapters to hook up. Mine works great. I am sure there will be other thoughts, that's what makes this a great place for research.

I did my research and many types are available. I'm more a DIY person, but after watching install videos, I was uncomfortable with cutting into my MH brake air lines. Cutting into the lines is done by many and not necessarily a bad way to go, but it is more costly. That said, I have a Ready Brute Elite and Blue Ox baseplate on the way from Amazon to pull our new 2016 Wrangler JKSU.

Woodsman and Les - thanks for the heads up on the Ready Brute Elite. We have spent quite a bit of time researching tow bars and in all honesty - this seems to be the one! It fits all the requirements, minimally intrusive, does not require some high end, real expensive brake option that will cost $500 to install at a shop, after you spend $1000 plus to purchase. Think we will order it from NSA direct as they actually have a better price than Amazon when you consider having to purchase the Blue Ox attachment (from Amazon) at over a $100 each. As for the Blue Ox attachment Tab Asm, Amazon has the better pricing. More money to spend - This vacation this year will put me in the hole for years to come Thx again for your help!

Received all of my Amazon order to set the Jeep up for towing by July 3rd. On the 4th, my wife and I started working on installing the Ready Brute cable brake assembly and the Ready Brute RS-5000 (Breakaway setup). With neither of us being real mechanical (thats why God made mechanics), we started, with trepidation on the installation. It actually went real well on the brake, and the only problem I had on the breakaway was when I took the cable out to make the install easier. Trust me - Don't Do That!! Finally got the cable back through the switch and it was straight forward from there. Nice setup, pretty easy install, and looking forward to getting use out of this on out long trip in August.

[emoji122][emoji122][emoji122][emoji106] on the install. You beat me on my install. All my "stuff" is sitting in the garage, hope to have it all installed by the weekend (including baseplate). Extra glad to hear it's an easy installation. Now go have some fun! Safe travels to you and yours!!

Where do you install the rs-5000 brake red box? I am installing readybrute elite, and wonder how to determine the best place on a 2016 Cherokee.

What is the best tow bar to haul your toad? We will be hauling a 2010 Nissan Xterra, we will also need the auxiliary brake system, your suggestions, please.

On my Wrangler I installed it in the driver's side wheel well.
